Even though this is a “pro-toothbrush” promo, I’m sure my mom would NOT have allowed us to watch this TV show growing up.

I mean, if we couldn’t say “Gosh” without getting into trouble, saying “Buttowski” would be akin to dropping an “F” bomb at the dinner table with the relatives visiting.

Isn’t it funny how acceptable language practices change over time? That’s because language is a product of culture and culture is definitely not static but always moving. Think about it: what kinds of things can you get away with now that you couldn’t a few years ago? What things can you NOT say now that you could a few years ago?

That’s what I love about language and culture. It pretty much kicks butt.
