Came across this tiny two minutes of freshness while taking a daily troll through YouTube. I’m probably late to the party … but at least I showed up, I guess.
“Boogity, boogity, boogity, Amen.” I think I’ll end all my prayers like that now.
If you think about it, that’s a signal that Darrell Waltrip’s catchphrase has not only caught on in the fandom of NASCAR, but also has become ubiquitous within culture at large.
It’d be interesting also to see how attendance fared at the dear pastor’s church the following week.
Was walking through the home-away-from-home (Target) today when I saw something that stopped me in my tracks: Quisp cereal.
I can’t remember the last time I saw a box of this … probably about the same time I last saw a King Vitamin box! And now, probably because someone about my age has the authority to make this decision, Target stores are bringing Quisp back.
It’s interesting to see how the things of your youth get re-marketed back to you just at the time you can afford to make your own decisions about them. This prompts two questions:
What’s going to be the next thing from my childhood to come back and try to rid me of some money?
What are the things from today that will come back in 20-25 years?
I’d like to hear your opinions. In the meantime, here’s a vintage Quisp commercial.
That’s a good title. And a good idea. Elliott Smith has been hanging around my periphery for too long.
My first brush with Smith was the haunting “Needle in the Hay” from The Royal Tenenbaums. Then came the Cat Stevens cover “Trouble” and the Big Star cover “13,” both from the Thumbsucker soundtrack.
I guess I keep bumping into him in the oddest of places. Movies, mostly.
But for all of this bumping, part of me thinks I like the idea of an Elliott Smith than the actual Elliott Smith. Is that possible? What does that mean, anyway?
I think there are artists we are supposed to like, if we view ourselves in a certain way, whether we really do like them or not. All genre of people have them. They’re the canon. Maybe Elliott Smith is one of them.
Maybe he’s one of those artists that I’ll get into when I get the chance to give him the time I feel he deserves. Sometimes life is just too busy to learn a whole new language of music.
