OK, so I’m probably last to the party, but I stumbled across this 16-song sampler from PolyVinyl Records for FREE! (I actually saw it for $1.99 on iTunes, but did some other investigating and found it free.)
You can opt to include your e-mail, but you don’t have to, just put the download code (MATH), though it may automatically be provided.
There’s some pretty cool indie-type tunes on here, including The Headlights, Mates of State, Japandroids, etc.
If you’re looking to get a lot of new music quick (and, I think I mentioned it before … but it’s for free!), this may be the way to go.

Amazon free mp3 of the day is “Think I Need it Too,” the new single from Echo & the Bunnymen. Yes, that Echo & the Bunnymen.
For those who weren’t around in the 1980s, the Bunnymen were part of the second British invasion. Though they never hit it huge, they did have some hits, like “Lips Like Sugar” and “The Killing Moon.” Look ‘em up for yourself.
Anyway, the new single doesn’t seem to be a re-hashing of old glory. It’s pretty fresh and has a post-punk vibe that fits wintry days. Check it out.
It is free, after all.

Ok, ok, ok, it’s a kid’s album … but that doesn’t mean it ain’t fun!
Amazon.com is offering “He’s a Bully,” a track from the excellent Phineas and Ferb soundtrack.
The song is short (only 1:12), which works as an advantage on several levels:
- Quick to download.
- Quick to enjoy.
- And, if you aren’t sure, you can quickly decide.
Get it and share a kiddie smile. Your co-workers will wonder what you’re up to.

Amazon.com is offering the first single from Bon Jovi’s new album for free.
I remember a college roommate, with great excitement and anticipation, ripping open the band’s New Jersey album. As the drums of “Lay Your Hands on Me” strained through the turntable’s speakers, he giddily declared: “They could’ve gone more pop, but they went harder!”
While that memory has nothing to do with this free song, it does underscore the longevity of the band, one of the few “hair bands” of the 80s to remain relevant. How’d they do that? Well, the hair, for one; but more importantly, they just continue to play. Sometimes, achieving legendary status has nothing to do with the content of the music as much as how long you’ve been able to do it.
Can you go wrong with Bon Jovi? Maybe. But can you go wrong with free? Nah.
Download it and judge for yourself.

I’m kind of excited about this free song. I’ve been intrigued by this project since I found out about it. The album and documentary are available for download on iTunes, but I haven’t had the gut sto pull the $16.99 trigger. Not until I know the documentary is solid.
Until then, though, Amazon.com has made available this track for free from the soundtrack, penned and perfomed by Y’all-ternative (my favorite tag) legend Jay Farrar (Son Volt, Uncle Tupelo) and indie poster boy Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie). The Amazon track is with a full band, the video in this post is just the two singers and guitars.
It’s a solid song, and I’m not just saying that because it’s free, either.
Get it and listen for yourself.
